Driving innovations in multiple Cisco's products and software services: initiating new architectures, evaluating new technologies and preparing for their seamless integration with Cisco product lines.

Currently working on leading research and engineering team on rapid prototyping next generation cloud computing (Fog Computing) and software defined networking (SDN) products and services.

Project involvements: Connected Vehicle, Trusted Execution and Enterprise Security, Adaptive Content Distribution Network. Large-scale Directory Services, Object-level Security, Fog Computing and OVS acceleration.
- PI and tech lead of Fog Computing Project, a recipient of $1Million Technology Fund from Cisco CEO John Chambers in 2012.

Technical Leader/Manager, Video Content Platform BU, Cisco Systems, Inc. San Jose, CA, 2006 - 2010

Served as chief designer and project lead of Movie Streamer, Cisco's first high performance H.264 streaming and
caching engine, a major part of Cisco Content Delivery System (CDS). Chief inventor of several technologies that
initiated this product, including Linear Hinting Streaming, Partial Cache and Rate adaptation. Played a significant role
in supporting product trial with Cisco technical marketing and drove the trials to revenue generating deals with major
customers such as Google Inc. and France Telecom.

Served as engineering lead of Proximity Engine (PxE) and Service Routing (SR) products. This groundbreaking
technology combines IP routing information to optimize content and service distribution and exchange. Drove the
project from ideation through multiple prototypes to scalable, resilient and cost-efficient products. Played a pivotal
role in supporting the first customer trial of PxE/SR that yielded initial revenue. Key technological contributions
include DHT-base prefix search, Federation with DHT, BGP proximity, service routing scalability and platform
convergence.

Led 12-person project teams in China, Europe and US to deliver multiple sub systems including mobile streaming,
intelligent service routing, and P2P traffic optimization; balanced the trade-offs between feature set and time-to-
market; expanded customer base of CDS to a number of global leaders in the telecommunications market, such as
Verizon, KDDI and NTT.

Designed a comprehensive training course of CDS and Movie Streamer and trained both customers, cross-functional
teams and new engineers. Mentored new grads and interns.

Submitted 4 patents on content routing, multimedia streaming and distributed hash table.

Worked closely with Cisco Research Center and Advance Architecture and Research team to solve escalated research
problems that arose from product development and deployment of CDS and PxE/SR.

Founding engineer/Technical Leader, Azalea Networks, Inc. Beijing, China/Milpitas, CA, 2005-2006

Co-invented AWR, a Mesh Routing Protocol, the key technology Azalea was founded upon.

Served as chief designer and developer of AOS, the company's flagship operating system.

Key technological contributions include AWR routing and forwarding foundation and intelligent roaming and
mobility.

Recruited, grew, and led 7-person development team in US and China on integration of AOS and the hardware
platforms to deliver the first mesh routing product.

Led a team of 3 researchers and improved Voice and Video quality over wireless mesh under high mobility and high
interference. Delivered various solutions that helped the company win dozens of deals in the field of video
surveillance and public safety in China and US.

Led the design and development of Link Service Sub-system for Juniper's M120 product line, a new multi-service
routing platform with optimized features. Key technological contributions include multilink service kernel re-
architecture, multilink service scalability and link service forward micro-kernel.

Gave organization-wide talks on networking related technologies, such as PPPoE, MP, multi-processor architecture
and multi-thread design.

Senior Software Engineer, Edge OS, Cisco Systems Inc. San Jose, CA, 2000-2004

Led Layer 2 VPN and Pseudo Wire Emulation(PWE) design and development effort and actively participated in the
IETF PWE Work Group. Led the development effort on ATM OAM over PWE. Formed collaboration alliances
among multiple teams inside Cisco. Key technological contributions include L2VPN and PWE standardization,
service module in Intelligent Edge OS, L2TPv3 over Ethernet and ATM, and Dial-on-Demand routing.

Led the development team to design, implement and deploy Course Online (COL), DePaul's 1st distant learning
system. Key technological contributions include user authentication and authorization, real time video recording and processing, digital white board recording and analysis, content distribution across multiple campuses, and streaming
performance optimizations.

Served as technology evangelist to demonstrate and showcase COL to faculty and students in CS department. Played a
significant role in the adoption of this innovation.

Worked with other departments and schools to expand the adoption of COL technology that made DePaul one of the
largest distant learning providers in the nation.

Participated in development of HotVideo (TM), the first interactive video application for the Web.

Project Lead, R&D Staff member, China Digital TV Holding LTD (formerly Tsinghua Tong Fang/Novel Info Tech Ltd.),
Beijing, China, 1996-1998

Originated the idea to use one-directional channel to deliver near-on-demand content to Digital Cable subscriber,
which laid the foundation of Novel's 1st generation Multimedia Broadcast System (MMCAST).

Led project team of 5 undergrad students and 2 grad students to convert above-mentioned idea to the key software
sub-system in MMCAST.

Worked closely with trial customers in deploying and troubleshooting MMCAST systems in experimental testbed and
production system.
