Prospective Students

Q. Are you a student interested in joining my research group?

A. Please do feel free to send me email. However, I receive a large volume of messages from multiple countries and am too often unable to respond to you directly. If you do not hear back from me, please accept my personal apologies in advance.

If you are interested in joining my group as a PhD student, please note the following. If I have met you earlier at a conference or another setting, you have good publications at strong forums and/or I know your advisor/professor well, I tend to get naturally more excited. However, I also look closely at candidates with outstanding records.

Also, please note that I do not offer any support for incoming M.S. students. Correct - there are no exceptions. If you are an M.S. student admitted to Carnegie Mellon and am interested in a part-time job for hourly pay or academic credit, please contact me after you are on campus. Please note that neither tuition nor living support will be completely covered under these conditions. (You should not commit in advance to work with me - similarly, I cannot make any promises either).

Finally, to re-emphasize, if you do not hear back from me, please accept my sincere apologies. Due to the abundance of messages, I often am unable to respond to every e-mail.

Q. Are you a recent Ph.D. interested in joining my research group as a post-doc?

A. Please do send me email. I occasionally may have openings.

When not to contact?

If you are looking for advice on how to apply to CMU, what scores would be expected, how to prepare, what to focus on, etcetera etcetera, please contact either ECE or various units of SCS directly. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to respond to such email messages that are sent to me - sorry.
