Neurophotonics
Using light to enlight the brain function
Lab News and Announcements:
- Matteo is joining the group in July.
- Jay is joining the group in August.
Welcome Jay and Matteo!
- Our ProSEED proposal on optoflex micro-LED array neural implants got funded.
- A couple of postdoc positions are available in my lab.
We are looking for people with hands on experience in the areas of optics and photonics, MEMS and fab, and 2D materials who are willing to expand their knowledge and interface with a neurobiology group at CMU (Prof. Alison Barth) We also welcome those with Biology or BioE background with hands on experience with electrophysiology, optogenetics, and neural imaging.
- Visiting students are welcome to apply.
- Undergrad and MSc research positions available.
- PhD positions available in my lab for Spring and Fall 2017. Before you apply you should carefully read the following:
- Please go through our research webpage and also browse some of our recent papers (conference and journal papers) and see if our research topics sound interesting to you. Do your homework first and then apply if you really feel a connection. Never send generic emails; it would not help you. Obviously a blind search is not the right way to decide about your future!
- I usually get the following frequently asked questions. So please read the following first before you inquire:
- Not sure if I have the right background; can I still apply?
Of course. If you are interested in what we do, you should apply. Our research is so interdisciplinary and new that almost no one in my group starts with all the required background. All you need to start is an understanding of the basic fundamentals in physics, electrical engineering, and mathematics. Most importantly you have to be passionatte to carry out a high impact research.
- How much biology/neuroscience do I need to know?
You will learn the basics of neuroscience and biology after you start your research. No prior knowledge in these areas required. Some students in my group gravitate more towards the application, some others stick more to the engineering aspects; we have the flexibility.
- I am not in EE, but interested; can I apply?
Yes. We welcome people from different disciplines (ECE, ME, Physics, BioE, BME, ...)
