Product Design, Not Digital Design
- Life-cycle cost may matter more than component cost
  - Acquisition/inventory/supplier qualification
  - Qualification & certification costs
  - Maintenance (spares/repair/training)
- Analog & power components; Relays & Discretes
- Software drives many designs, not VHDL
  - Embedded designers are often domain experts, not HW design
       experts
  - Software perceived as cheap & easy to change (only sometimes
       true...)
  - VHDL is not necessarily prevalent in embedded design
