(HotSWUp)
- Co-chair of HotSWUp 2009
- Co-chair of HotSWUp 2008
The goal of HotSWUp is to identify cutting-edge research ideas for implementing software upgrades. HotSWUp is an inter-disciplinary workshop, based on synergies among the domains of programming languages (e.g., as reflected at conferences such as OOPSLA or PLDI), software engineering (e.g., as reflected at ICSE or FSE) and systems (e.g., as reflected at SOSP or OSDI).

Outreach Activities
- Founder and president,
Romanian Students' Association (RSA)
RSA is an organization aiming to organize social, cultural, and educational activities that can provide a basis for consolidation of fellowship among its members; to welcome newly arrived or prospective CMU Romanian students and provide to them assistance and information about life in Pittsburgh and events organized by RSA; and to disseminate information about Romanian culture to interested students.
(from the Constitution of RSA-CMU)
- President,
ECE Graduate
Student Organization (EGO)
EGO is an organization concerned with the quality of graduate student life in the ECE department at Carnegie Mellon University. One of my contributions to EGO was that I initiated a series of information sessions on the qualifying exam. The purpose of these student-run sessions is to dispel some enduring myths about the qual and to assist first-year students with preparing a formal presentation.
I also co-directed the ECE movie.
- Volunteer, Pittsburgh Council
for International Visitors (PCIV)
PCIV is a nonprofit organization whose vocation is to build inter-cultural bridges, to present the American culture to international students and visitors and, most of all, to bring people together.
