This data source provides quantitative models based on real data of in-service component failure rates. The failure rates take into account the type of component, quality level of the component, and the application environment.

The data covers a large range of electronic components and assemblies (other component types are covered in the companion NPRD-95 publication). The types include integrated circuits, capacitors, diodes, optoelectronic devices, resistors, transformers, and transistors.

The data is new enough to include some commercial grade components as part of the military's move to off-the-shelf technology. It is probably the most comprehensive data of this type available.

Abstract:

This document contains failure rate data on various electronic component types including capacitors, diodes, integrated circuits, optoelectronic devices, resistors, transformers, and transistors. It provides both summary and detailed data sorted by part type, quality level, environment and data source. The data was collected by the Reliability Analysis Center from field usage experience from military, commercial and industrial applications. Data tables include part descriptions, quality level, application environments, point estimates of failure rate, data source, number of failures, total (cumulative) operating hours (or miles) and detailed part characteristics. Indexes are also provided for part description, commercial part number, military part number, and national stock number to assist in efficient data retrieval.
