Mechanics represents a key aspect of live cells. The main focus of this laboratory is to understand the mechanisms involved in actuating and sensing mechanical events at the cellular level.  Live cells are studied from an engineering perspective, to understand how complex molecular and structural interactions give rise to dynamic functions.  Of particular interest are cellular responses to mechanics-dependent signals, including forces, rigidity, topography, and migration state.  Such fundamental knowledge is critical for advancing many clinical and biomedical engineering applications.
