Mentoring & Outreach Program

This program represents two things that are important to all WinECE members: mentoring and outreach.

The goal of the mentoring program is to help new students build a close relationship with experienced upperclassmen and to build a sense of camaraderie among women in a male-dominated major. This represents both sophomore undergraduate women and first-year graduate women new to the department. The mission of the mentors is to provide support and understanding, as well as guidance in all areas of life within ECE, including advice about classes, graduate school, and jobs/internships. Not only do we offer advice regarding academic life, but we also aim to help students find other programs to become involved in on campus. The mentoring program organizes both academic and social events to help new students acclimate to life at Carnegie Mellon.

For more information about the mentoring program, please contact one of our mentoring chairs: Jaime Kang or Arushi Chawla.

The second component of the program stresses the importance of outreach. The outreach program is a new initiative toward middle and high school girls. Its goals are to introduce them to the versatile field of ECE, get them excited about technological advancement, and help them understand that, as women, they can be part of it. The program gives the young students an opportunity for an early hands-on experience, and a chance to meet other women who are interested in ECE.
