Long-Term Component Availability
- Eventually, IC's undergo an end-of-life event
  - Companies can buy stockpiles to last their product's life
  - When companies don't buy, 3rd party vendors buy in
speculation of later profit by reselling to desperate
       companies
- Components must be, in part, selected based on availability 20
       or 30 years hence
Design Challenges
  - Resynthesis to update parts
    - Minimal recertification costs
    - Correctness in the face of ambiguous/incomplete
       specifications
    - Backward compatibility
  - Dealing with legacy designs
    - Obsolete component models
    - Linkages & attributes that don't print out
    - Discontinued CAD tools on discontinued workstations
