Professor Ganger is too sick to do class today, and so has had to cancel. The topics will just shift back by one, and Monday we will pick up with "Communication Models".

As a first installment, the READINGS page now describes the topics/readings for the first 3 weeks of class. The complete list will go up soon. (Note that the papers we gave out in the first class meeting actually cover the first 3.5 meetings, so you'll want to make sure that you read and summarize the right ones before each particular class.)

In today's class, the first homework assignment (an undergrad OS refresher) will be handed out. It is due at the beginning of the next class: Monday, September 18. Feel free to print the postscript from here and get an early start.

As promised, 712's first meeting will be on Wednesday, Sept. 13 (today!). Other than brushing up on your undergraduate OS material, you aren't expected to have read anything in particular ahead of time. (A couple of people asked.)

Because of the SCS IC, 712's first meeting will be on Sept. 13. Although the class does not officially start until then, anyone planning to participate is strongly encouraged to make sure that they are up to speed on the pre-requisite material -- because of the lost time, 712 must start and progress quickly.
