A commercial CAD tool, Fidelity, was used to resynthesize an automotive electronics product. Although the tool was in fact able to perform the required design synthesis, the case study uncovered obstacles to the adoption of this and other CAD tools by embedded system designers. In particular, embedded system designers may require tools that perform life-cycle and cross-disciplinary optimization. Additionally, CAD tools may need to deliver a significant new business capability rather than incremental productivity improvements in order to justify adoption.
